Last night the Coro Amurianum gave a concert in S. Bortolomeo — a charming little 18c church hidden behind shops just off the Rialto bridge. We had a full house, and it went pretty well. That marks the end of this concert season. Whew.
Today I’m heading to Cremona on an overnight trip with some other rowers from my cannottiera. Tomorrow we row the Po — downstream and just for a couple of hours. Let’s hope the wind, rain, and cold stops by that time. We’re also getting a tour of the city and are supposed to eat well, so it won’t be a total loss, even if rowing is impossible. (In case I haven’t said this before, the rowing in question is the “voga alla veneta,” i.e. venetian rowing, which is done standing up and facing forward. It’s not punting!)

The weather has taken a turn for the hotter. It’s positively beautiful, especially after the afa turns to rain and the rain clears off and it’s cool and lovely.
Here’s a little sampler of what (at least a couple of) you have been waiting for…

I rowed to Mestre (practically) the other day. My first time out that wasn’t a rowing lesson. There were six of us in a caorlina. Very cool! Nan’s rooibos tea was most welcome. That’s just about as far as I can row without doing myself damage, I think. The sun is doing me good, or at least that’s what I’m told by the beautiful Italian people who surround me (and have neither freckles nor melanoma to worry about — beati loro). My double dose of pallor — induced by both genetics and library work — has had people concerned about or perhaps pitying me (or worse, who knows).
This evening I have another concert to sing, this time in Martellago. Another road trip, albeit a short one. I hope to get this internet thing ironed out soon so that I can return to my semi-regular posting again. Not to mention that, without a fixed phone, the internet it my only tether to friends and family back home. I miss everybody!

I still have no internet of my own at the new pad. The days of free, unlimited wifi are officially over. Will have to catch up on posting once I’m reconnected for real, and not just checking email on the fly. Ciao, tutti.
